2017 Smoothhound Challenge

The 2017 Pure Fishing Smoothhound Challenge is set once again to be a great success, with anglers looking forward to catching plenty of big starry hounds … simply catch the biggest Smoothhound of the day and win a rod & reel combo. One set available each day.

My Way has become widely known as a boat that can be trusted for big smoothhounds, With the vast majority landed in the mid teen weight range, 2016 alone saw 14 hounds over 20lb in weight. The smoothhound Challenge has for 6 years marked the traditional start to our season.

Running between May 22nd and May 27th 2017, with day and evening trips scheduled, there is a Shakespeare Agility 9ft tipster rod with Penn Spinfisher 5500 reel available to the angler catching the heaviest hound each day.

Designed in 3-equal sections, the Agility Sea Tipster features quality Zirconium Oxide rings, suited to both mono and braid. A light and supple tip section, promotes bite detection perfectly.

Agility Tipsters have been aboard My Way for the past two years and proved to be a great success with anglers often choosing to loan them against their own heavier gear. Smoothhound fishing is exciting, but with a light responsive rod, its even better.

The Penn Spinfisher series of reels are also available for use aboard My Way and over the last couple years have counted for numerous fish, ranging from a few ounce minis to tope and in particular smoothhound. Spools are designed for mono and raid, with the Spinfisher reels sporting stainless steel mainshaft and alloy main gear.

Featuring the HT-100 Slammer Drag, this is a very smooth reel and provides more pressure than ever before. Read more on the 2015 Pure Fishing Smoothhound Challenge here
