Little change from the usual

The strong winds cancelled a day afloat aboard My Way 2 today, however a small fishing fix was still called for so Trish and I headed off to our local fishery Llyn Y Gors. A couple rods chucked into the margins of the Pleasure Lake returned only big bream and no carp, but the main fun of the day was fishing small 3m Omni Tele-poles from Shakespeare in search of the many small species that inhabit the lake.. We weren’t disappointed, fish after fish succumb to the float fished maggots. Fishing is fishing after all and where as normally we’d be […]

Plan B …

With the winds this morning not allowing us our planned day afloat, Iwan and Shelby opted for plan b and a first time coarse Fishing at Llyn Y Gors. A couple rods were set up, both fishing method, with a different pellet on each rod tipped with a small white maggot. On the poles, a standard float rig to a size 16 hook for a couple maggots, one red and one white. The Fishing on the poles was consistent through the day, with perch, roach, small bream and cruscian carp keeping us entertained all day. The carp fishing was slower […]

25mph winds, Keith And I went carping

After a great day afloat on Friday 27th, with spurs, huss, congers and thornback ray amongst the catches, westerly Force 5 to 6 winds swept through Holyhead cancelling our weekend afloat. Undeterred and still wanting some fishing, My Way regular Keith and myself decided on a day at Llyn Y Gors fishery on Saturday 28th October, chasing some of the smaller carp and silver fish on the pleasure lake. I’d had a couple slow sessions at the lake over recent weeks landing only one or two carp each trip, so today I was determined to put into practise all that […]

New Reel? Mitchell Avocast FS 6000

Mitchell has a long established history in fishing reels. The original company dates back to Italy and the late 1800’s with watch gears and similar intricate products. In the 1930’s they became involved with a couple fishing tackle manufacturers in the design and production of new reels. At the height of Mitchells production late 1960’s and early 1970’s it was reported that they were making 12,000 reels a day! I remember one of my first boat fishing reels, a Mitchell 624. This reel and the 622 can still be seen in use today, strong and robust they are going strong, […]

Dad & Lad time

A day off for myself and Harry yesterday and we decided on a day at Llyn Y Gors pleasure lake, chasing a few of the smaller carp on the rods and also other species to the poles. The fishing wasn’t as hectic as we would have liked, or indeed as enjoyed on previous occasions. Similar to sea fishing, fresh water species are also affected by changing weather patterns and are equally susceptible to changes in pressure. Despite this and the breezy conditions, the sun shone for most of the day and we managed to land quite a few fish between us both.  […]

As the wind blows

After a few days afloat with the good mixed fishing reported earlier the wind once again kicked in over much of North Wales, Anglesey in particular suffering with more winds up to a F8. A day at the lake was called for with the better half, with a little competition between us both on who could catch the most.  Sadly the carp didn’t want to play ball, with just a couple each and a decent sized bream each too. Plenty of small bits on the pole including rudd, perch and crucian carp. More photos in Fresh Water Gallery 2 If […]

Dawn can fish too

Having seen hubby Keith enjoy a couple fishing adventures on the lake recently Dawn fancied a day at Llyn Y Gors too. Not the best afloat, but always enjoying a spot of fishing Dawn was keen to try the lake and get amongst a variety of fish on the rod and pole. Plenty of roach and small bream to the pole and we also managed to catch half a dozen carp on the rods between us. Nice average size of around 4lb from the shallow waters of the Pleasure Lake … Keith was there too More photos in Fresh Water […]

Weather!

Weather! I feel like a stuck record … with My Way tucked up ready to ride out the latest onslaught that these ridiculous weather systems seem keen on throwing at us, another day on the lake was called for to achieve some form of fishing fix. Keith, having had his first day on a lake last week had already invested in a years coarse angling license and was keen to get amongst the carp again today. Sadly the carp weren’t having any of it. We had a good selection of bits on the poles, but the hectic carping of last […]
