Sea fishing related news and reports covering boat fishing from My Way with Gethyn Owen

Pure Fishing Sept competition

A good day afloat yesterday for our Sept Pure Fishing competition. Weather was not the kindest with a strong NW breeze forecast, fortunately this eased quite quickly, leaving a fairly reasonable sea for us to enjoy within the bay. Our first anchor produced a good number of dogs and whiting, with a few other species including hound and strap conger. Similarly our 2nd anchor on the mussel beds, this time with a good few double figure huss added to the scoresheet and the odd tub gurnard. By the end of this point, Mark Cain and Chris Neden were only a […]

All at sea

Nice to be back on the water today, our first time for a few weeks thanks to the extremely poor weather we’ve all suffered with lately. Inshore fished as expected given the northerly winds with dogs, whiting and huss the main catches. Our anchor in the deeps was slow, no spurs or tope for Laura to tag she she did though manage to tag a couple good sized huss for the Shark research database she collects information for. Drifting in the deeps worked well, with some nice pollack coming to the rods frequently. Averaging 4lb, Mark with the best at […]

Weather!

Weather! I feel like a stuck record … with My Way tucked up ready to ride out the latest onslaught that these ridiculous weather systems seem keen on throwing at us, another day on the lake was called for to achieve some form of fishing fix. Keith, having had his first day on a lake last week had already invested in a years coarse angling license and was keen to get amongst the carp again today. Sadly the carp weren’t having any of it. We had a good selection of bits on the poles, but the hectic carping of last […]

When the wind blows

It’s been a horrible time of late, My Way has not sailed since Sept 04th, the winds have been constantly to high for us to enjoy a successful day afloat resulting in us cancelling everyday. Again yesterday, an onshore wind of F6 gusting F7 with no where to shelter is just not a recipe for a happy day afloat. My Way though has received some pretty amazing TLC in the meantime, a good scrub down on deck and ion the engine bay a full engine and gearbox service, all in preparation of the winds easing and treating us to some […]

Keith’s fresh water adventure

With the weather playing havoc with boat plans of late, carp fishing has been a bit of fishing sanctuary. On Anglesey for a family holiday and with a couple boat trips cancelled already My Way regular Keith Heaton was up for trying some freshwater angling. Having never coarse fished before, it was a fun day planned at local lake Llyn Y Gors. The pleasure lake our chosen venue, where carp to 10lb can be found along with plenty of small fish such as bream, Rudd and perch. The day was an overwhelming success, with plenty of fish from the off. […]

“Fishing is fishing, whatever you do”

“Fishing is fishing, whatever you do” as a friend recently pointed out on hearing that I had been dabbling in the art of fresh water angling once again. I used to carp fish a good number of years ago, and enjoyed it immensely. But being brought up on Anglesey, rocks and boats are where I cut my teeth in angling, spending many a long summer catching all manner of species from the sea. Sea fishing will always be number one for myself but fresh water angling has its place. In a contrast to sea fishing and certainly fishing aboard My […]

Quick trip before more winds

With more wind scheduled for the weekend, we managed to sneak a day out again on Friday. The fishing followed the pattern of the previous few days, with Holyhead Deep being our main target. Here we landed a few small pollock over the wreck followed by huss and tope at anchor. The drifting inshore was a little slower than previous days, with wrasse being a little trickier than normal to hook up. We still managed to get a good few to take our bats, great sport on light gear.  More photos in Gallery 219
