Sea fishing related news and reports covering boat fishing from My Way with Gethyn Owen

A new chapter opens

Its been nearly two weeks now since Storm Emma caused destruction in Holyhead Marina. Its been a tough time for everyone involved, truly heartbreaking! Ive said often that the words of support and kindness shown to us all and in particular the three charter boats has been very humbling and overwhelming, thank you. Aaron, Gareth and myself have vowed to come through this together and build Holyhead up once again and make the port an even stronger angling destination. After lifting My Way from the water last weekend, she was surveyed and declared a Total Constructive Loss, it saddened me […]

With a little help …

We’re underway with the recovery of My Way. Been an unbelievably long hard day today, making things so much harder is that My Way is sat up to the waterline in mud and clay. We do now have the bow up free and look to continue with recovery over the weekend. There are far too many people to thank for their support and help of late, but a few guys need a special mention the nameless Duracell pocket rocket for starters … he’s 50 now you know and a warrior indeed. The hard work starts

Managed to get permission from Holyhead Harbour Master today to lift My Way. I have lift gear and with friends and colleagues we’re planning for later this week   More to organise with dive gear, straps, support craft and then we’ll be ready to go. So many people with overwhelming words and offers of support have me lost for words myself. The marina is devastated and so many folk have lost boats, livelihoods and others their homes. Our boats are insured and in time we will get repairs or replacements sorted. But at the moment we have no way to earn […]

My Way, Holyhead Marina & Storm Emma

On Thursday evening I shared a video of the horrendous weather that was blowing through Anglesey and Holyhead in particular. Storm Emma hit hard with F10 gusting F12 for an unprecedented amount of time. Early yesterday morning the hardest day I’ve ever had in my life working around the sea began. The gale force winds wreaked carnage and left devastation behind them. My Way clung on till around 6am, when the pontoon gaveway and she broke from her berth.  Sadly My Way sank around 9.30am. There are many boats that have sunk or smashed up on rocks. My heart goes out […]

A settled run …

We’ve been enjoying some settled weather of late and managing to get afloat on 6 days from the last 9. Coming to an end today as the cold winds with a F5 – 7 are forecasted. Fishing has been consistent for the time of year. Inshore offering up plenty of fish dogs, whiting and huss the majority of catches with dabs, pout, coalies and straps amongst the others. When we’ve pushed out to Holyhead Deep we’ve been rewarded with huss and some good double figure spurdogs. Good weather, good fishing, good crews, some excellent food and a good few laughs along the […]
