Tackle On Trial – Penn Squall 20LW

When we embarked on our sponsorship deal with Pure Fishing, it was important for us to obtain the right equipment for our waters. With the likes of Penn, Abu Garcia and Shakespeare all part of the Pure Fishing family of companies, we had quite a decision to make on the exact products that suited our needs. Reels had to be robust enough to endure the rigours of novice handling, especially line lay, so a strong level wind in particular was essential. They also had to be fairly easy to use. Drag system being crucial, for personal fishing I love the […]

Angler Report from 24th April 2017

Well. What can I say….. fished on My Way skippered by non other than Gethyn Owen today, out of Holyhead. Skipper reckons it was a slow day today, but if a slow day involves tope, spurdogs, huss, wrasse and pollock, then I can’t even begin to imagine what a good days like!!!!!!! Another member of the Mersey hound family was on board, Tom Murphy. He’s relatively new to boat fishing but with the guidance of Gethyn managed several new species and shattered his previous pb’s! I myself obliterated my pollock pb! No official weight but believed to be around 7lb. Cannot […]

Sam Harris Fishing

Last week I had the great honour of speaking to Sam Harris, on his community Radio Show in the North East. Many of us ‘older’ anglers will know the name, Sam has been a popular figure in angling for many years and to the best of my knowledge Sam is the only recognised sea angling ‘celebrity with an MBE, awarded for his services to Sea Angling and various charities. He is still working tirelessly to promote angling in the UK and particularly his native North East.   My slot starts at 19mins and if you can endure it lasts for […]

Last couple days have been great fun afloat, with My Way regulars and a visit from our Sponsors Pure Fishing. Pure fishing is the worlds largest tackle manufacturer, with the most elite range of products, respected brands such as Greys, Penn, Shakespeare, Abu Garcia, Berkley plus many more. When looking at UK angling, media & product design in particular, two names stand out, Mike Thrussell and Steve Souter. Both have a long history in angling journalism and product design; rods, reels, line, hooks plus more. Steve also having enjoyed a hugely successful career in the UK match angling scene, with […]

April Delights

Hard work at times this past week, generally we’ve been catching well, just the big fish appearing to keep away at times, with just a handful of spurs and huss being caught. Great fun on the drift with plenty of pollack with wrasse and codling. Highlights include a nice 6lb 7oz pollack for Parky and young Tom Rowan with his first spurdog More photos in Gallery 200

Pollack A Plenty

Another great day afloat April 14th, laughs & fish despite a blustery west wind restricting play. Plenty of pollack to be had for all onboard, along with codling coalfish, mackerel, herring and a few ballan and cuckoo wrasse on the drift. At anchor dogs, whiting and huss, with dabs, poor cod and pouting adding to the fun. Sadly a blankety blank on the spurdogs again.
