Pure Fishing Sept competition

A good day afloat yesterday for our Sept Pure Fishing competition. Weather was not the kindest with a strong NW breeze forecast, fortunately this eased quite quickly, leaving a fairly reasonable sea for us to enjoy within the bay. Our first anchor produced a good number of dogs and whiting, with a few other species including hound and strap conger. Similarly our 2nd anchor on the mussel beds, this time with a good few double figure huss added to the scoresheet and the odd tub gurnard. By the end of this point, Mark Cain and Chris Neden were only a […]

“Fishing is fishing, whatever you do”

“Fishing is fishing, whatever you do” as a friend recently pointed out on hearing that I had been dabbling in the art of fresh water angling once again. I used to carp fish a good number of years ago, and enjoyed it immensely. But being brought up on Anglesey, rocks and boats are where I cut my teeth in angling, spending many a long summer catching all manner of species from the sea. Sea fishing will always be number one for myself but fresh water angling has its place. In a contrast to sea fishing and certainly fishing aboard My […]

Angler report 24th August 2017

Brilliant days fishing yesterday! It started with a few hours on the breakwater with Jonathan Hudd and Gav Evans. Gav got the best of the sport with a nice huss. Then it was all aboard my way a absolutely brilliant boat with a excellent well deserved reputation skippered by Gethyn Owen We set off on the drift with lots of action from ballan, corkwing, cuckoo, pouting and 1 or 2 other species and even a lone cod for Andy Wilmore. Fishing at anchor the sport never slowed with lots of dogs, huss, pouting and Paul Anthony Brooks managed a nice […]

Pure Fishing Summer competition

We fished our second Pure Fishing summer competition day today with the slight twist of a Facebook inter group challenge with the Hardcore Hounds up against the Jolly Boys. All anglers with their sights on the first place prize of a Penn Rampage uptider, combined with a Penn Fathom 15 multiplier courtesy of My Ways sponsors Pure Fishing UK Ltd. Forecast was not the best, a stiff SW F5 blew most of the day restricting our movement. This never dampened the spirits aboard My Way, with plenty of fish being caught from around the bay during various drifts and anchor […]

Pure Tope

Memorable day afloat today with Halton SAC and members of the Mersey Hounds fishing group partaking in our 2nd day of the July species points competition sponsored by Pure Fishing U.K. The forecast wasn’t the best, light breeze in the morning increasing to a strong breeze with a strong wind warning for the afternoon, exactly when we were due to fish a few miles offshore. Our plans for Holyhead Deep were all but shelved. With the quality hire gear supplied by us, the guys opted for using tackle from My Ways armoury. We set sail at 8.30am equipped with a […]

Greys Strata Guideflex Trousers

In all my years fishing like the vast majority of anglers out there I’ve worn a good strong pair of jeans. Rainy days sees them covered with a waterproof bib and brace set, often with matching jacket. There are many outfits to choose from, with both the recreational and commercial sectors of fishing having an array of clothing to choose from. A few months back a friend showed me a pair of the Strata Guideflex Trousers from Greys and was raving about how light, waterproof and comfortable the trousers were, I think the phrase ‘just like wearing pyjamas’ had me intrigued […]

Smoothhound Challenge winners

My Way is widely known as a boat that can be trusted for big smoothhounds. With the vast majority landed in the mid teen weight range, 2016 alone saw 14 hounds over 20lb in weight. The smoothhound Challenge has for 6 years marked the traditional start to our season.  2017 however was looking to be a small upset, the hounds had not really appeared in any great number and the sizes drastically smaller than those normally enjoyed. We did catch little over 80 hounds in total over the 5 days making the overall fishing hard work for those involved, with a few blanks […]

Friday Funday

A good few hounds around on day five of the Pure Fishing Smoothhound Challenge, however all under 10lb, we failed to land a double figure, poor by our own standards. But, it was great to be anchored up in such great sunshine. A fair old number of hound came up during the evening trip, but again the vast majority of them tiny at around 5lb.
