Our day started off with a change of plan, we had hoped to head straight out to Holyhead Deeps and fish the last of the ebb tide for possible spurdogs. Sadly the […]

New Reel? Mitchell Avocast FS 6000

Mitchell has a long established history in fishing reels. The original company dates back to Italy and the late 1800’s with watch gears and similar intricate products. In the 1930’s they became involved with a couple fishing tackle manufacturers in the design and production of new reels. At the height of Mitchells production late 1960’s and early 1970’s it was reported that they were making 12,000 reels a day! I remember one of my first boat fishing reels, a Mitchell 624. This reel and the 622 can still be seen in use today, strong and robust they are going strong, […]

Pure Fishing Sept competition

A good day afloat yesterday for our Sept Pure Fishing competition. Weather was not the kindest with a strong NW breeze forecast, fortunately this eased quite quickly, leaving a fairly reasonable sea for us to enjoy within the bay. Our first anchor produced a good number of dogs and whiting, with a few other species including hound and strap conger. Similarly our 2nd anchor on the mussel beds, this time with a good few double figure huss added to the scoresheet and the odd tub gurnard. By the end of this point, Mark Cain and Chris Neden were only a […]

“Fishing is fishing, whatever you do”

“Fishing is fishing, whatever you do” as a friend recently pointed out on hearing that I had been dabbling in the art of fresh water angling once again. I used to carp fish a good number of years ago, and enjoyed it immensely. But being brought up on Anglesey, rocks and boats are where I cut my teeth in angling, spending many a long summer catching all manner of species from the sea. Sea fishing will always be number one for myself but fresh water angling has its place. In a contrast to sea fishing and certainly fishing aboard My […]

Angler report 24th August 2017

Brilliant days fishing yesterday! It started with a few hours on the breakwater with Jonathan Hudd and Gav Evans. Gav got the best of the sport with a nice huss. Then it was all aboard my way a absolutely brilliant boat with a excellent well deserved reputation skippered by Gethyn Owen We set off on the drift with lots of action from ballan, corkwing, cuckoo, pouting and 1 or 2 other species and even a lone cod for Andy Wilmore. Fishing at anchor the sport never slowed with lots of dogs, huss, pouting and Paul Anthony Brooks managed a nice […]
