Hard day comes good

A brisk north west wind and some difficult fishing was all set to put the dampeners on our fishing exploits today.  Our first few marks either drift or anchor struggled to produce any amount of fish. Dogs, huss and whiting the main culprits taking the baits.  As the weather eased, we ventured out a bit further for another attempt at the rays. Thankfully armed with a bucket of fresh mackerel caught by young Gethin, the rays came out and we managed to bag a good few to brighten up a slow day.  Heading in we stopped off for a quick […]

That’s fishing

The last week has not been the easiest of late. The weather has been up and down, and the Fishing has followed a similar path. Great on some marks and others not so good. Still we’ve sailed and been amogst the fish as often as we can, with some good laughs along the way. Wirral based Mark Fletcher enjoying his day afloat with many new species for the year includig this lovely tope A special mention must go to Des, at 88 he is still hoping in a boat and going fishing. Enjoying the sport that he has loved for […]

Pure Fishing August competition day one

Difficult day afloat for the 01st day in our August species / points competition generously sponsored once again by Pure Fishing Uk.   Our day started off on the drifting around South Stack where we found a plentiful amount of ballan wrasse and mackerel, together with cuckoos pollack and codling.  As the damp weather continued the wind also increased, so we headed back into the bay where dogs and huss became the main build of catches.  Congrats to local rod Ceirion Parry, who came out the day winner with 8 species and a points total of 131, made up largely […]

Excellent fun day afloat yesterday in bright sunshine and calm seas. Plenty of fish from a good mixed bag along with a barrel of laughs.  The plus side of Fishing with friends, they always save a space for thee skipper. Fish & Novices

Great fun day today, back at the helm after a good few days off with the weather. Lumpy Sea to start and wet conditions for our Anglers, all bar two experiencing boat fishing for the first time.  Plenty of fish at anchor first thing, dogs, whiting and huss with one small spotted ray. On the drift a plentiful amount of mackerel and small pollack.  By the afternoon the seas had calmed and the sun broke through, we tried for bigger species and were reward with plenty of big huss and a couple nice 30lb Tope.

Little change from the usual

The strong winds cancelled a day afloat aboard My Way 2 today, however a small fishing fix was still called for so Trish and I headed off to our local fishery Llyn Y Gors. A couple rods chucked into the margins of the Pleasure Lake returned only big bream and no carp, but the main fun of the day was fishing small 3m Omni Tele-poles from Shakespeare in search of the many small species that inhabit the lake.. We weren’t disappointed, fish after fish succumb to the float fished maggots. Fishing is fishing after all and where as normally we’d be […]

New piercing …

Using multiple hook rigs can pose the odd problem.  Popular and highly effective our two hook muppet rig for Holyhead deep snared it’s biggest catch yesterday, skipper Gethyn.  With a 27lb tope on one hook, the tope was lifted into the boat, the tope naturally thrashed about, a little peeved at its circumstances. The flaying hook embedding itself into his wrist.  No real drama, the hook was cut away and pushed through. Job done. The tope, a first for its capture, also released after a quick photograph.

Thursday Fishing Fun

Another good day afloat today, thanks to more settled weather. Pollack averaging 5lb on the wreck, followed by an anchor with huss and tope. Inshore drifting the wrasse were again obliging with a good amount of these little fighters being caught. Top marks go to Gordon, who is down for a couple days fishing from the North East, wanting to catch himself a first tope. A nice 30lb tope that fought well from 165ft of water was his reward. More photos in Gallery 219 Spaces available for this coming Monday with a chance to win and brand new rod and […]
