Conger time

With the recent storm over we’ve enjoyed a couple of days afloat on the Menai Strait. Sunday was a slower day with whiting dogs the odd huss and a solitary conger taking the baits. Yesterday the fish fed well. Armed with some good quality mackerel and squid it started off with whiting and dogs keeping us busy as we waited for the turn of tide and a move down the Strait for potential huss and conger. Fortunately neither disappointed. With only a few lads on I even managed a full days fishing myself, including 4 strap eels and a dozen […]

Ray day

Weather restricted our fishing to the Menai Strait last weekend, fishing was typical with a relentless supply of whiting and also dabs, dogs, huss and mini specie during our 5hrs afloat. With a great forecast today we headed out of the Strait for a 7hr trip drifting for thornback rays. Triple shots of whiting and joey mackerel saw us off the mark, gathering a few extra baits before the rays moved in and then it was non stop rays. A few laughs as normal and plenty of sport for those aboard. More photos in Gallery 272

Good Fishing

With the settled run of weather recently we’ve enjoyed a good few trips fishing both within the Menai Strait and out in Caernarfon Bay. Our shorter trips along the beautiful Menai shoreline has seen us catching a good mixed bag of fish with a steady flow of whiting, dab, dogfish, herring, mackerel, huss and mini. Caernarfon Bay has once again fished exceptionally well. On Sunday we headed out at 7am, an hr later on arrival at our mark opted to drift a 75ft sandbank for rays an other species. In the 2hrs we fished this mark we had over 50 […]

Work continues

Last month the weather hammered us with high winds and some fairly biblical rainfall that cancelled all but a couple trips since relocating to the Menai Strait. Never the less, we’ve cracked on with plenty of jobs, rig tying when the rain poured and then some TLC and improvements to My Way as weather allowed. Gunwales have been sanded down and painted ( be warned you weight bangers! ) The galley makeover is well underway, the gas hob & oven unit has been taken out and is being replaced by an inverter for 240V with the help of Stuart Marine. Been a while …

With poor weather the end of Sept, a week away and relocating to the Menai Strait it’s been a while since we last set sail. A good forecast saw us set sail early this morning from Port Dinorwic, offshore to the wrecks. The morning was interesting. Plenty of fish showing but only being caught by the two Daves! Everyone else either lost fish partway up or snagged the wreck! No names of course … Slack water came and thankfully the odd fish still came aboard, a few wrecks and a run of tide later everyone started to remember how to catch […]
