PENN Smoothhound Challenge day four

It was the 4th day of our Smoothhound Challenge week last Friday. Sponsored by PENN Fishing the aim to catch the heaviest hound to win a new PENN Wrath rod and reel combo. The stamp of fish has been generally quite low this year, with an average size of 8lb. However we’ve had some good mid and high teens through the week to keep the excitement and anticipation going. Friday returned over 30 hounds with the eventual winner Anglesey Angler Mark Cain with a hound of 14lb.

Pure Fishing Smoothhound Challenge 2017 winners

My Way is widely known as a boat that can be trusted for big smoothhounds. With the vast majority landed in the mid teen weight range, 2016 alone saw 14 hounds over 20lb in weight. The smoothhound Challenge has for 6 years marked the traditional start to our season.  2017 however was looking to be a small upset, the hounds had not really appeared in any great number and the sizes drastically smaller than those normally enjoyed. Pure Fishing Smoothhound Challenge 2017

The 2016 Smoothhound Challenge was a great success once again, with plenty of big starry hounds being caught. We now have limited spaces available for the 2017 event – simply catch the biggest Smoothhound and win! A rod & reel combo up for grabs each day. Next years challenge is scheduled for day & evening trips between 23rd and 27th May 2017, book now to avoid dissapointment – check spaces here  Top hound of 2016 went to Mark Cain with a superb 24lb specimen, one of 14 20lbers boated during this years hound season.

TronixPro Smoothhound Challenge 2016

Marking the start to our hounding season, last week saw the annual Smoothhound Challenge aboard My Way return, this year sponsored by tackle innovators Tronixpro. Conditions were great all week with calm seas greeting all that fished with us. The fishing wasn’t hectic, with packs of smoothhies failing to show. In its 5th year, the My Way Smoothhound Challenge has become a hugely successful event. Having been generously supported in recent years by Fladen UK, the 5 day event in 2015 changed sponsors. Fladen Smoothhound Challenge 2014

The Fladen smoothhound challenge, held aboard My Way has grown in size recently. From humble beginnings, the inaugural event 3 years ago was held during the last bank holiday in May 2011.
