Return to the Strait – Oct 2020

We will be returning to the beautiful Menai Strait and Port Dinorwic Marina for the first week of October 2020. On the Strait we enjoy some superb winter sport from a variety of different species. The Menai Strait is mystical part of Wales that affords shelter and calm seas from most wind directions! Within the sheltered waters, most trips see a succession of species including whiting, dabs, codling, dogfish, huss, smoothhound, conger and an array of other mini species. Venturing outside when weather allows we encounter plenty of thornback rays and spurdog amongst others. Our 5hr fun competitions also return […]

The species are adding up

Our My Way 2 species hunt is keeping anglers on their toes as the season progresses.  We’ve spent many days offshore this year with various trips, together with missing out on lockdown, the species days have been limited, however we are still adding to the list as weather allows. With big spring tides this week we spent our time moving around various marks trying to tempt a variety of different fish to our baits. We managed in collating a respectful number that included bull huss, coalfish, codling, corkwing wrasse, cuckoo wrasse, dogfish, mackerel, pollack, starry smoothhound, tompot blenny, pouting, poor […]

Happy September

September is the time of year offshore when the fishing slows down. Earlier this week we managed another trip to the wrecks with some great results. The last few wrecking trips have always yielded plenty of pollack but with the average size down slightly on the prime June – Aug trips.  However on our most recent trips we managed to keep a fairly respectable 8lb average for the day and fill the boxes with prime fillets of fish. Great fishing and weather enjoyed by all afloat on My Way 2 More photos in Gallery 261 Bookings for 2021 aboard My Way […]

Porbeagle Shark

4 years ago with My Way 1 we set out to hook a shark and on our first attempt managed a porbeagle of around 200lb.   In 2017 we had a couple fruitless efforts, a few brief runs but no real success.   We often have the occasional encounter with sharks when wreck fishing but always stick to the job in hand – pollack, cod and coalfish.   On 15th September, we set off at first light for our first dedicated attempt at sharks with My Way 2.   Half way through our day one porbeagle estimated at 200lb+ surfaced […]

Getting out when we can

Weather has been very trying of late with a good number of trips cancelled. We managed to sneak out one day this week and head offshore onto the wrecks. This time of year it can be a case of moving around and searching for the fish. The wrecks that we favour through early summer still produce as autumn gets underway, but not in the numbers we normally enjoy. Fortunately for our most recent trip the fish came out to play. We started off at a couple shallower wrecks to usual at 220ft and were rewarded with a good number of […]

Liferaft Found

Heading offshore last Sunday we noticed something floating in the distance. As we got closer it became apparent it was a discharged emergency life raft.  On inspection, it looked a little torn in places, but generally in good condition, no weed growth and very clean, it had the door open and survival pack in tact inside! We notified Holyhead Coast Guard, gave them as many details as we could and then awaited the arrival of Trearddur Bay Lifeboat to take control of the situation.  Below is taken from Trearddur Bay Lifeboat Facebook page Must admit we did fear the worst […]

Bank Holiday Fun

When the sun shines and seas are calm life always seems a better place!   Lovely couple days afloat over the Bank Holiday, a few laughs with a good crew but equally as important a good number of fish on every drift. Average size was below par at 4-6lb, but we also managed a good few doubles with the best at 14lb 2oz for Cheshire angler Graham Chadwick. Oh the weather

Going to bed the night before a trip with 5-10mph forecast is ace. Waking up to 15-20mph is not so ace. Epic day afloat, wind, rain, some good laughs oh and more rain and wind .. and a lumpy sea. You think you’re having a slow day when compared to the norm when sun and sea favour your adventures. Then it comes to filleting and it’s apparent we did catch a few Fun time with a fun crowd Photos from the August available in Gallery 258, Gallery 259 & Gallery 260 Bookings for 2021 aboard My Way 2 are well underway […]

What a month

When the storms roll in it’s easy to take a downward view on the month that’s gone. But to be fair, we’ve enjoyed some great fishing.   Sorting through photographs and looking back through the month it is pretty safe to say we’ve enjoyed a great time afloat sailing between the inclement weather. Working through the tides, there have been some superb fish to be caught both inshore and off – deeps or wrecks, it’s been a pretty enjoyable time.   It niggles a skipper when anglers thrust a fish for the camera … hold it close, it’s a great […]
