The PENN Slammer III has been an extremely popular reel since its release a couple years ago. Built for heavy duty use from either boat or shore these reels are highly respected and used by anglers all over the world.
Aboard My Way 2, we’ve been using the PENN Slammer III 5500 models over the past couple years for an array of different species – rays, tope, smoothhound and huss as example of hard fighting species that require a such reel – tough, smooth and up up to the job.
New for us in 2020 is the PENN Slammer III 6500 High Speed model. Benefiting from a slightly increased retrieve of 6.2:1 and increased line capacity of 455m of 0.33 line, these reels are well suited for the trials of fishing Holyhead Deep or further offshore when wreck fishing 100m+.
The PENN Slammer III reels feature the new IPX6 Sealed System. IPX5: Can resist a sustained, low-pressure water jet spray. IPX6: Can resist high-pressure and heavy sprays of water.
IPX6 keeps water out of the gear box and drag system.
The PENN Slammer III also benefits from the Slammer Drag System which now utilises PENNs proprietary Dura-Drag material. The Dura-Drag washers virtually eliminate hesitation even when under extreme load, making the reel ideal for big fish and deep water sitatuions.
