In between wind and work, we’ve managed a good few trips through April. Thornbacks have been the main catch through April, with a plentiful amount coming to the boat, 1, 2 and on the odd occasion 3 at a time. The early season fishing has included herring, whiting, dogs, huss, rays, tope and a few other species. Our availability has recently been updated, we’ve limited spaces till Oct this year, please have a look and get in touch if you fancy a day afloat.

Had a good first trip out of Holyhead Last Sunday with regulars from Yorkshire angling club Meltham & District. Drifting was steady with a number of small pollack being caught with the odd pouting and codling. With dogs, whiting and small huss at the inshore anchor. Despite the big tie wee tried our luck in Holyhead Deep and managed to snare a few more huss and spurdogs. The largest spur for Gary at 14lb on his first ever trip with the club.

We’ve had some big spring tides this week that has restricted much of our fishing to a variety of inshore marks. Fortunately with most days clam and sunny, we’ve ailed and enjoyed a good mixed bag of fish. Drifting has seen an abundance of small pollack to 3/4lb. Vast majority around the 1lb mark and often 3 or more at a time to scratch rigs or feathers. Mixed in with the pollack we’ve had a few coalfish, ballan & cuckoo wrasse, herring and mackerel. Last weekend we basked once again in some welcome sunshine coupled with good fishing. The ray fishing has been superb, with an abundance of thornbacks being caught. Holyhead Deep has also been kind with some big spurdogs, huss and strap conger. Close inshore has seen a plentiful amount of pollack to 4lb with a few mackerel, herring and wrasse when on the drift. Inshore anchor is slowly picking up as the influx of species continues with dogs, huss, dab, whiting, gurnard, smoothhound and the odd mini species adding to the count. Our return to Holyhead has been fortunate to coincide with some lovely weather, helping us get out and amongst some good fish. Inshore we’ve seen plenty of small pollack up to 4lb, coalies similar along with a few ballan wrasse, cuckoo wrasse with mackerel, herring and minis too. The main part of recent trips has been an anchor in Holyhead Deep – with plenty of spurs and huss keeping anglers occupied with a couple small tope too. Monster from the deep for Wirral based Mickey Duff. With the body thicker than my thigh and me having to stand on a seat box to weigh, the scales failed at 50lb. Note to self, get bigger scales!
