Ouch!

Fun day afloat Friday with a great crowd of individual anglers. Couple sessions in Holyhead Deeps provided a bounty of spurdogs and a good number of huss too. Drifting found a great number of early pollack and a few ballan wrasse. Nothing too big, but a few keepers making a fish supper this evening. I wanted to try out a new rod and reel combo and managed to snare 4 spurdog for myself, but soon packed that in. Net skip, have you got the net, net please! Together with making the brews, serving up the sausage casserole, taking the obligatory […]

Monster spurdog

Another great day afloat on Thursday, good mixed bag of fish at anchor and drifting. We also continued with our tagging exercise with Wobby Shark Savers, plenty of spurdogs weighed, tagged and released and another 30 plus released without tagging so not to keep them on the deck for too long waiting. Belle of the ball was Keith Heaton plenty of spurs to his credit and best a new personal best at whopping 20lb 13oz. More photos in Gallery 241

Shark tagging

Enjoyable day afloat yesterday for our first trip of 2019 from Holyhead. Despite a bitterly cold east wind we had a good mixed bag inshore and spurdogs making an appearance in Holyhead Deep.  Today we were also joined by Laura from Wobby Shark Savers with a plan to tag and release all the spurs caught to assist in various scientific studies. Fortunately the first spurdog fell to Marine Biology student Portia Harris, who was keen to take part in this tagging exercise.  The exercise involves measuring and weighing of the spurdogs in the hope of recapture and then new information […]

More Menai

Today should have seen our first sail having returned to Holyhead for the spring summer season. Strong winds all week have kept us in Port Dinorwic and a changeable forecast for the weekend gave us something to ponder Our crew today (06th April) opted for a sail from Port Dinorwic and enjoy some fishing outside the Menai Strait in Caernarfon Bay and some shelter from the east winds. Plenty of fish from a range of species that included whiting, dabs and dogfish amongst others on the small bait and a good amount of rays and huss on the bigger rigs […]

Looking forward to Holyhead

Since late October 2018 we have been enjoying some good fishing from Port Dinorwic marina on the Menai Strait. The fishing has been consistent throughout our time with plenty of fish and species being caught regularly. However we are also looking forward to a return to Holyhead.  My Way 2 will be heading back to Holyhead the first week of April, all ready and eager to catch up with the quality fishing on offer from our more regular sailing point.  Following the devastation caused by Storm Emma in March 2018, we needed the following month to get off to a […]

Windy with rays of sunshine

The strong north east winds thwarted our plans for the deeps today, so we went around the coast in search of rays & huss. Drifting was slow, with only small pollack, codling and one herring. Anchor Work provided plenty of dogfish, a few whiting and dabs and also a good number of the anticipated rays and huss. More photos in Gallery 227

Plenty inshore dogs, whiting, dabs and huss making up the bulk with plenty of pollack to a few lb on the drift with the odd coalie and wrasse.
