Down Deep

Early start today, fuelled the boat up following a few offshore trips and in readiness for a trip out to Holyhead Deep. It didn’t fish to expectations, but we managed a good few tope and number of huss. However calm seas and a few good laughs helped us along the way. Great fun as always. It’s been busy

Been an interesting past week or so. Wind cancelled a couple, a break for a couple … mixed bag inshore for two more and back at the wrecks on Monday. Safe to say, it has been great fun. Inshore was firstly rays followed by Holyhead deeps for tope and huss. On Monday we hit the wrecks. The day was planned to arrive at our first wreck early, reap the rewards then travel over slack to the next. Pollack, coalfish filled fish boxes. Last of the tides

When the fishing is on fire, it’s a hard choice sometimes when you know you may well be pushing the last of a set range of certain tides. Wrecking needs neaps to mid, Deeps needs a tide below 27′. Other areas need good spring tides for a run of water to get the fish feeding.  Yesterday was 29-30ft, really at the tough end for a day on the wrecks. But having seen the great fishing anglers had been experiencing, yesterdays crew of local anglers wanted to make it happen.  Fortunately, we weren’t disappointed.  Plenty of big double figure pollack, with […]

Rob rocks

The superb wreck fishing continued on Sunday, with plenty of fish for everyone. The day however was owned by Rob! First fish on the deck of My Way 2 that morning was an 11lb 10oz cod. Plenty of cod and pollack followed for Rob, along with a lovely 13lb 15oz pollack. Brilliant fishing and great to see such nice fish. We met at sea

Such an enjoyable time afloat last Saturday, we were met on the high seas by good friend of 20 plus years Kit Dunne aboard his boat Castle Maiden that runs out of Wicklow in Ireland. Pulled alongside for 5 mins, lovely chat, a cheers to the day ahead and a bit of banter before both boats and crews set about filling the ice boxes. A good number of fish, plenty of doubles and a few new personal bests set again with pollack to 13lb. For our Irish angling friends, give Kit a message at Wicklow Boat Charters he’ll put you on […]

Happy Tuesday

Forecast for Tuesday was a little suspect when looking forward a few days earlier, with southerly winds increasing each time I looked. Thankfully, they eased off and gave us a chance to get back out to the wrecks before the winds blew in. Different to the previous day when we fished a few different wrecks we only fished the one wreck this day given the inclement weather ahead. It produced! The day started off slow with slack water, but as soon as the tide started to move the fish came on the feed. Pollack to just shy of 13lb and […]

Bank Holiday madness

Weather has been poor this August, we’ve only managed a handful of trips around the strong winds that have kept us tied up, all those trips inshore owing to strong winds or size of tide.  Small tides and a lovely weather window allowed us to get out wreck fishing on Monday, our first visit for a good few weeks. I was a little apprehensive given the weather, but shouldn’t have been. The few wrecks we choose were on fire. Stacked with plenty of plump pollack, largest being 12lb 8oz and a great average size. Great fishing for everyone aboard My […]

MAD

Always a fun day afloat with MAD-SAC, a great bunch of lads that fish all over the UK. Whatever the weather if they can get out, we go fishing and catch what we can. Last weekend the weather and fishing came top trumps.  After a misty start caching plenty of mackerel to supplement our frozen baits, we headed off to Holyhead Deep. The mist cleared, the sun came out and the tope and huss started biting the baits. Plenty of pack tope to 24lb for everyone onboard. Great fun More photos in Gallery 252
