Inshore fun

Excellent fun inshore chasing a few species, drifting for the morning followed by an afternoon at anchor. Plenty of wrasse around, ballans and cuckoos, great fun on light tackle. With added pollack, coalfish, scad and a few nice codling for John. Holyhead Deep was tiring!  Spurdog and pack tope every drop, with a few double shots testing the muscles. Final anchor in the bay yielded a handful of hounds to cap a great day afloat with the crew from Milnrow. More photos in Gallery 266

Fishing Frenzy

Another superb day offshore. Cool boxes over flowing with fish at the end, despite some filleting midway through.   Codling failed us today and we had a slow period on slack water, but besides that it fished brilliantly, plenty of single and double shots of pollack with many well into double figures. The Good, the Bad, the Ugly …

The bad – 5am sail to get out, catch some fish and beat the F6 early afternoon. The very bad – the fish on the first wrecks were still sleeping, only a few small pollack for our effort! The ugly – 20 miles off, the morse cable on the gear box snapped, couldn’t go forward, couldn’t go astern. The very ugly – The Wookie! Fortunately the cable snapped a few inches from the gear box. A little redneck engineering between Matt and myself had us back in action within 30 mins. Cheers Matthew for your help The good – after […]

The wrecks are rammed … full of fillets

Another cool box filling day offshore recently. Fish every drift on a lovely summers day. The first wreck held a bounty of codling between 3 & 6lb. We moved on after a while in search of bigger fish and the wrecks offered up countless pollack, with plenty of doubles to bend the rods Great fun and superb fishing. More photos in Gallery 265

Plenty of pollack

Early sail on Monday morning to beat the weather front moving in that afternoon.  Setting off in calm conditions it was hard to accept that by early afternoon we would have 20mh winds blowing up the Irish sea. Setting off at 7am, we were thankful that the fish played ball, with pollack on every drift for My Way 2 regular Stephen Hughes and his friends on their first wreck fishing experience. . 1st official wrecking trip of 2021

We enjoyed our first dedicated wrecking trip of the year yesterday, 01st June 2021. Fortunately the fish were feeding in great numbers. No double figures, but fish every drop averaging 5-6lb A great start to our wreck fishing season, numbers will hardly increase with every drift producing one or two fish, but the sizes will grow steadily as we move forward. More photos in Gallery 265 Great day afloat yesterday. Pollack every drift, no monsters this time, but boxes full of pollack and coalfish averaging 5-6lb. Bumped into Kit Dunne aboard Castle Maiden from Wicklow Boat Charters, lovely to catch […]
