After all the wind of late it was lovely to set sail on only our 2nd Menai adventure today. Calm seas, no wind and sunshine on the cards. A regular crew, chasing species were rewarded with a steady stream of fish through the day that included dogs & whiting, with huss, thornback, corkwing, ballan, rock goby and a LSSS making up the catch. Great crew to spend the day with, glorious weather for a change and a few laughs. With the recent storm over we’ve enjoyed a couple of days afloat on the Menai Strait. Sunday was a slower day with whiting dogs the odd huss and a solitary conger taking the baits. Yesterday the fish fed well. Armed with some good quality mackerel and squid it started off with whiting and dogs keeping us busy as we waited for the turn of tide and a move down the Strait for potential huss and conger. We’ve enjoyed some good trips lately. This winter, the Menai Strait has fished extremely well. As I always say, it won’t set the world alight, winter for us is a case of shorter trips, catch a few fish and have a laugh with fellow anglers.  Whiting tend to make up the bulk of the catch, with dogs, huss, dab and mini species the other catches as we fish through December into January.
