Glorious late winter sunshine and calm seas for today’s cruise along the Menai Strait. Todays sail was also extended to enjoy a picnic at anchor just off Puffin Island watching seals and porpoise playing in the superb February high.

Something new
A first for Norman and My Way 2 yesterday, a 5 bearded rockling. Normally found close in under rocks and breakwaters the 5 bearded rockling is on the mini species list and doesn’t grow more than a few ounces in weight. Plenty of whiting with dogfish and dabs to the boat in addition Oliver’s birthday so mum brought a red velvet cheesecake too 😁.

Enjoyable few days afloat just gone with some fine weather especially yesterday with light wind and sunshine. Fishing was slow at times and hectic others. Sadly nothing to break any records but a generally steady stream of whiting, codling, dabs and a few other species keeping us busy. Great seeing friends when afloat on the Menai Strait, they often manage a few great photos of My Way 2

Battle lines were drawn today for the February fun competition sponsored by Pure Fishing UK Ltd. Lighter winds than the last few days and sunshine had everyone in high spirits. Sadly though the fish forgot to turn up in any real numbers. A really hard slog for 4 hrs with very few fish returning to the Anglers, we did manage whiting, codling and a few dogfish. However a consistent run of fish helped Ian turn out the eventual winner, choosing a brand new PENN Squall reel as his reward

Fantastic weekends fishing with the friends from north of the border and their adopted clan member from the Wirral. Saturday spent within the Menai Strait chasing a variety of species on light and LRF gear. Sunday was a morning out in Caernarfon Bay after rays and huss, then back inside for bits n pieces. Weather gods looked down favourably on us as we enjoyed for the best part of the weekend calm seas & sunshine. Species count was pretty good for mid January – whiting, dab, dogfish, codling, huss, thornback, conger, pout, poor cod and ls sea scorpion, spurdog and […]

Great day afloat today with Halton SAC for the first of our 2019 Pure Fishing fun competitions. Sheltered from the 30mph NW winds the Menai Strait was lovely and calm plus fished well as the 8 Anglers battled out for the first prize. Fishing was never going to rewrite any records, but a steady flow of whiting and codling, together with dabs, dogs and a variety of mini species kept everyone focused on the win. In total, the lads caught 212 fish in the 4hr match. The battle for top spot was hard fought, with Norman and Andy matching each […]

Love these shots. Great photos from Trish of us travelling through the Swellies today. Some good fishing too along the length of the Strait. Main catch were plump whiting, many of which retained for the table. Codling, dabs and a few mini species adding to the catches.

Yesterday saw the last of our fun competitions for 2018. All our fun comps have been generously sponsored by Pure Fishing (UK) ltd and this trip had a brand new reel as prize for the winner. Fishing was patchy at times as we moved around the Menai Strait looking for both quantity and species to add to the score cards. The day ended up with a respectable 9 species for late December, whiting, codling, dab, dogfish, ss sea scorpion, ls sea scorpion, poor cod, coalfish and also a grey gurnard. For quantity the lads amassed a total of 234 […]
