Most of the charter fleet off the north Wales coast benefit from a fairly consistent run of big tope. Holyhead is no exception, with the current Welsh record for a boat caught tope, 79lb, being caught and then released aboard My Way in August 2005 by Nottingham angler Anthony Meli. Spurdogs have seen something of a revival in recent years. Sadly the spurdog was long lined to near extinction not so long ago, with pleasure anglers suffering the loss of a good fighting fish. I was talking recently to acclaimed angling journalist Mike Thrussell, from World Sea Fishing , he was telling me of a drift way back in the late eighties whilst out sharking some 30 miles off the west Wales coast. August was another month of mixed fortunes aboard My Way, maybe ‘Mixed Fortunes’ will be the title of our 2015 review, temperamental weather once again playing a big part in the whole month. Still, with a fully booked boat, when the weather allowed we managed to sail whenever possible and locate some sport for our crews. July 2016

July! A month once again blighted by wind. Seems to be the most common factor in reports this year yet again. But, where possible we have sailed and enjoyed some great sport inshore and especially out in Holyhead Deep. The first few trips we remained inshore, with winds and tides restricting movement. Our rewards were some good mixed days with a variety of species including plenty of smoothhounds.
