Conger

We’ve enjoyed some more great days afloat on the Menai Strait this week. Everyone catching plenty of fish in the early winter sunshine. Bulk of the catches made up from whiting, with a good number of chunky fish at 2lb. Other species included dabs, codling, huss, sea scorpions, dragonettes and lesser weavers. As the  water temperature drops yesterday we had a first crack at the congers. We only managed a couple of 15lbers along with huss. Sadly after a promising start just at dusk, the bigger eels didn’t appear to be on the feed. Never the less great fun, with […]

Good weather & good fishing

We’ve enjoyed some lovely settled weather over the last few days and equally some great fishing. Whiting making up the bulk of our catches, along with dogfish, huss, codling, dabs, mackerel and a selection of mini species. Thanks to David Hellon for the video. The Menai Strait is a gorgeous place to fish, wonderful scenery to enjoy whilst catching. Please share:

Happy birthday Mark

Another great day afloat today on the Menai Strait. Plenty of whiting, dogs, mini species and huss being caught on our 5hr trip. Was also a special day for good friend Mark Cain who was celebrating his 40th birthday. Mark was with me 16years ago when we sailed My Way 1 to her new home in Holyhead. Couldnt let the day pass without cake! Please share:

Black Goby

Fish don’t always have to be of gigantic proportions to get an angler excited. This little fella doesn’t grown much bigger and is a first for its captor Graham Chadwick and a first for My Way. The Black Goby is a small little fish that dwells around rocky outcrops. Feeding on small marine worms and fish. Lovely to find a new species amongst the many whiting, dogs, dabs and others being caught last Sunday. Please share:

Sea Scorprions

Guess the Sea Scoprion is not the prettiest fish we have in our waters, but they’re still a great looking fish all the same. This long spined sea scorpion was caught on Monday along with whiting, dogs, codling and huss. Its colours are quite striking with a full camouflage effect on its body. Please share:

We’ve been enjoying more great fishing on the Menai Strait lately. Plump whiting, dogfish and a mixture of other species often two & three fish a drop. First week afloat on the Menai

We’ve been back in our winter home of Port Dinorwic Marina on the beautiful Menai Strait for a week now, and already been making use of the sheltered waters and good fishing available. With 30mph winds blowing across North Wales we have sailed a few times and been rewarded with calm seas and a very steady stream of fish. Whiting and dogfish have made the bulk of catches, with most drops being rewarded with single, double and triple of shots of fish with some of the whiting already approaching the 2lb mark and being retained for supper. The odd codling […]
