Been fishing

We’ve enjoyed some good trips lately. This winter, the Menai Strait has fished extremely well. As I always say, it won’t set the world alight, winter for us is a case of shorter trips, catch a few fish and have a laugh with fellow anglers.  Whiting tend to make up the bulk of the catch, with dogs, huss, dab and mini species the other catches as we fish through December into January. With the right tide and conditions we also target conger eels. After a morning filling the buckets with some good sized whiting, we headed off to a deep […]

Top Rod

Top  Really enjoyable day afloat last Saturday, despite the wind and rain early on for our first Pure Fishing Fun Competition for the winter season.   As normal for winter on the Menai plenty of whiting etched onto the scorecard to start with, followed by dogfish, pout, huss and a small 5 bearded rockling.   Amassing the most points, top rod for the day was Holyhead angler Kieran Welsh, choosing a versatile PENN Fishing   Squadron Touch Tip rod as his prize.   Great fun and a great feeling to be afloat again after lockdown and spring tide blues More […]

Family Fun

Sunshine, fish and smiles a few weeks ago when we had a 7hr trip on the Menai with the Leighton Family. A tidy mixed bag including, dogfish, whiting small smoothhound pout and poor cod keeping the young anglers entertained. Thanks to Rich and Deena for the photographs and kind words Wales never fails to impress and this time the amazing opportunity to take the boys on My Way 2. Myself and Richard Leighton have always enjoyed trips and this time to share with our boys was perfect! I cannot thank Gethyn Owen for being an amazing captain and making the […]

Having fun

We’ve been enjoying some great mixed fishing on the Menai Strait for the passed week.  Our trips have been 5hr over high water and 7hr over low water, many a simple good days fishing and a few chasing species for anglers to tick off their tallies for the year.  Anyone catching a fish aboard My Way 2, simply uses the boat species card while afloat and takes a quick photo of the card alongside their catch. This photo they then upload to the My Way 2 Species Hunt 2020 Facebook Group Page and we keep track of who has caught […]

It’s been wet

Despite the strong northerly winds of late we’ve enjoyed some calm seas within the Menai Strait this last week. Fishing has been on the whole good, but also at times unpredictable. One day plenty of hounds, small tope and a mixture of other species. And the last couple the mainstay being huss, dogs and whiting, quite possibly due to the coloured water with strong northerly winds blowing outside.     Been a wet couple days too but enjoyable with rays, whiting, dabs, mini species adding to the catches already mentioned.   More photos in Gallery 262 COVID19 Information pack Bookings […]

Menai Magic

Brilliant fun day for our first trip on the Menai Strait yesterday. We wanted to make the most of the sunshine despite the tide being a little too big to that normally preferred on the Menai thus restricting us to just a couple marks.   We still managed a good few species, keeping us all busy through our 5hrs afloat – dogs, whiting, huss, dab, mackerel, sea scorpion, small tope and a fair number of small smoothhound.   Looking forward to the months ahead chasing a wealth of species along this stretch of water. Menai Wrecking

It was an interesting start to the day yesterday for our first trip from Port Dinorwic for 2020.   It was an excellent forecast with the weather gods looking kindly upon us for a change. 8am sail though in the thickest fog I’ve witnessed for a long while.   It did clear up within half an hour and left us with gloriously calm seas and sunshine for our 2hr steam off to the wrecks. Fish came aboard from the start, slow for the first half hour as the tide started to run, then it was a continual haul of pollack […]
